A ShootProof alternative that edits, too
ShootProof built its name on taking 0% commission, on every plan, since day one — that part isn’t marketing spin, it’s their whole pitch and it’s genuinely good for photographers. Where the two platforms diverge is what you pay for and what happens to your photos before they ever reach a gallery.
Where they differ
ShootProof prices by photo count, not just storage — the free plan caps out at 100 photos, and moving up the tiers means paying more as your library grows, regardless of file size. Obscura only counts total storage: 100 GB free, however many photos that is for you. The bigger difference is upstream of the gallery — ShootProof expects you to arrive with finished files. Obscura includes a browser editor, so RAW develop, color grading, retouch and culling happen in the same place you deliver from.

| ShootProof Free | 100 photos / 5 GB | Photo count + storage | 0% | No |
| ShootProof 1,500 | 75 GB, $12.99/mo ($10.99 annual) | Photo count + storage | 0% | No |
| ShootProof 5,000 | 250 GB, $21.99/mo ($19.99 annual) | Photo count + storage | 0% | No |
| ShootProof 25,000 | 1,250 GB, $31.99/mo ($26.67 annual) | Photo count + storage | 0% | No |
| ShootProof Unlimited | $60/mo ($50 annual) | Storage only | 0% | No |

Where ShootProof is ahead
Some of this is a straight trade-off, and it’s worth saying plainly:
- 0% commission on every plan, including free. That’s their founding stance and Obscura doesn’t compete with it by spinning — Obscura also takes no commission, but ShootProof has held that line publicly for longer and built print fulfillment around it.
- E-sign contracts and invoicing are built in. ShootProof bundles client contracts and billing into the same product. Obscura doesn’t have this — it’s a gallery and editing platform, not a studio-management suite.
- 1-on-1 phone support. ShootProof offers direct phone access. Obscura doesn’t currently offer phone support.
- Mobile gallery apps. ShootProof has dedicated iOS/Android apps for clients and photographers. Obscura is browser-based only — no native mobile app.
Questions
- Does Obscura take a commission on prints or digital sales?
- No. Obscura doesn’t run a print store or sales storefront at all — you deliver files and handle sales however you already do. Nothing is skimmed.
- Can I edit photos inside Obscura before sending the gallery?
- Yes — RAW develop, tone curves, HSL color, healing and portrait retouch all run in the browser on the same photos you’re about to deliver. See the full editor walkthrough.
- Does Obscura offer contracts, invoicing, or a print store like ShootProof?
- No. Obscura is focused on the gallery-and-editing pipeline; it doesn’t include e-sign contracts, invoicing, lab fulfillment, or mobile apps.
